FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A garage was destroyed after a fire off Spring Street Thursday night.
FWFD officials say that another truck (Ft Wayne FD Engine #7) was responding to a minor car accident around 8:45 p.m. when they drove passed a fully involved, detached garage fire.
Turning around, they arrived back on the scene at almost the same time 911 callers were calling this fire in. Finding the garage behind 1611 Spring Street fully involved in fire, they commenced to protecting the nearby homes and garages that were in danger of catching fire. One resident was reported in the home and needed assistance from family and neighbors to get out.
Other arriving crews assisted in preventing fire spread to two other garages and two nearby homes. The fire spread on neighboring buildings was held to just melted siding. Work around the structures was dangerous and limited due to a power line to the original garage that had burned through and dropped to the ground.
Another engine was sent to the initial car accident and there were no injuries there. The FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, NCE and AEP.
Officials say the garage suffered heavy fire, water, and smoke damage.
