Senate Resolution No. 55 celebrated with free day of tennis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Senate is congratulating the United States Tennis Association on its 140th anniversary by adopting Resolution No. 55. In it, it notes Play Tennis Midwest, a free and interactive weekend for kids and adults to try tennis.

Organizers released the following on Monday:

Time and time again, tennis has been ranked the number one socially distanced sport (MLive, The New York Times, Racquet Sports Industry Magazine). According to The New York Times, Tennis participation rose 22 percent in 2020. During the pandemic, nearly 3 million new players picked up a racquet for the first time, and 3.8 million Americans returned to the sport. Many of those participants had extra time on their hands while working from home. Play Tennis Midwest events are meant to encourage beginners who are new to the game and anyone who’s looking to make a comeback!

In Fort Wayne, juniors and adults (ages 5 and up) will have an opportunity to play on local tennis courts at Swinney Park on Friday, May 21. The best part: There’s no cost to play. Even better: If you don’t have a racquet, one will be provided to you onsite!
