FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A 17-year-old is charged as an adult with felony murder for allegedly shooting and killing 27-year-old Johnny Yates Sr. on November 28th in Fort Wayne.
WANE-TV reports that Lonnel Tinker is also charged with robbery after he is accused of shooting Yates from behind in the victim’s car as he and others met with him to trade a Glock with a drum magazine for two of the victim’s guns.
Yates’ girlfriend told police Tinker and another person got into the backseat and a third person was at the window, and they demanded everything they had at gunpoint. The other suspects are being sought.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police are investigating what is now the fifth shooting in the last few days. Officers were called to the 2800 block of Monroe Street just before 6:30 p.m. Monday on reports of a man who was shot.
An adult male was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound on the 2800 block of Monroe. Police believe though that the man was shot on the 2900 block of Reed Street before being taken to the area where officers found him.
Medics transported him to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, according to police. However, on Tuesday, the Allen County Coroner reported that the man had died. The coroner says that the death of Johnny Ray Yates Sr., 27, has been ruled a Homicide.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that was found in the 2900 block of Reed Street, in Fort Wayne, on Monday, November 28, 2022, at approximately 18:24 hours, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The decedent has been positively identified as Johnny Ray Yates Sr, male, black, 27 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Johnny Ray Yates Sr. was transported from the scene by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority to a local hospital where death was pronounced. Cause of Death has been determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Johnny Ray Yates Sr. is the 24 th Homicide for Fort Wayne, Allen County for 2022. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

On Monday November 27th 2022 at approximately 1824 hrs Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Dept were dispatched to reports of a shooting 2800 Block of Monroe St. Officers arrived to find an adult male victim suffering multiple apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was transported by TRAA to a local area hospital in life threatening condition. At least one witnesses have been identified and is cooperating with the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
