FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Roughly 65% of Americans own their home, but that figure is nearly halved among Americans younger than 35 years-old. In some parts of the country, however, it may be easier for this young cohort to buy homes.
To find where young residents are most likely to own their home and where young homeownership has increased (or decreased least) in recent years, SmartAsset analyzed data from the Census Bureau. They ranked 200 of the largest cities based on two metrics: the under-35 homeownership rate in 2019 and the 10-year change (2009-2019) in the under-35 homeownership rate.
Topping the list was Midland, Texas and Cape Coral, Florida. Fort Wayne cracked the top 10 cities at number 9 where more young residents are buying homes.
