Crews hampered by conditions at “hoarder house” fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say a home suffered heavy damage in an overnight fire.

Crews arrived and smoke coming from the home at 2519 E. Paulding Road just before 3 a.m. Thursday. FWFD officials say that this was a “hoarder house.”

It took several crews an extended amount of time to find a way in because of all the debris.
After removing a large amount, crews were able to access the structure and extinguish the fire – it took them about a half-hour to gain control.

Officials say that, due to the amount of items stored inside and outside of this house, it took them several hours overhauling and extinguishing hot spots. One resident made it out safely before crews arrived. Firefighters were able to rescue one pet.
No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation. FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, NIPSCO, AEP and NCE.
