FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department crews were at the scene of a fire through the overnight hours and into this morning. Crews were called just after 12 a.m. to the 5000 block of Rothman Road.
When trucks arrived, they found flames on the house’s first floor and garage, plus the attic space. Firefighters were able to get in and put out the fire but not before it caused heavy damage to the house.
The FWFD says that parts of the home were beginning to collapse. Crews stayed at the scene to make sure that flames did not kick back up.
There were six people inside and they had already made it out of the home. Sadly, of three pets inside the home one of them died.
The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was notified of a residential structure fire at 5032 Rothman Rd. Units arrived to find fire showing from multiple floors and areas of the house. Crews pulled lines and met with the occupants who stated all persons were already evacuated from the structure. Multiple crews made entry into the house and went to both floors and extinguished the fire. The fire was well involved at this time and parts of the house started to collapse. Crews continued working until the fire was completely contained. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night to keep an eye on the Home. Fire investigators are working the scene at this time. Agencies assisting were, FWPD, TRAA, NHC, NIPSCO, AEP and Fort Wayne Utilities.
