INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun has signed nine executive orders focused on healthcare.
Among the orders, he hopes to address healthcare pricing transparency.
Braun also signed an order directing state agencies to ensure the state’s abortion laws are “fully and faithfully executed,” including submitting terminated pregnancy reports. The abortion ban in the state allows for the procedure only if there is a deadly fetal anomaly, if the mother’s life or health is at risk, or if the pregnancy was the result of incest or rape.

On January 22, 2025, Governor Mike Braun signed Executive Order 25-20 which will require the Indiana Department of Health to report on terminated pregnancies in our state, compromising the privacy of Hoosier women. State Senator Andrea Hunley (D-Indianapolis) issued the following response:
“I am profoundly disappointed in this Executive Order by Governor Braun, which will infringe on the medical privacy of Hoosiers and continue an alarming trend of setbacks for women in the state of Indiana.
“We should all be outraged and deeply concerned. The government has no business digging into private medical files, and with this Executive Order, Governor Braun is creating a surveillance state. In no uncertain terms, Hoosiers do not want big government in their exam rooms and Hoosiers do not want their freedoms compromised.”
“My heart hurts for the women who will fear for their privacy, and safety, during an already sensitive and difficult chapter of their lives. I also immediately think of Hoosiers who live in continued uncertainty about starting a family in our state because of the impacts on access to maternal health and young people who are set to emerge into their formative years with fewer freedoms than they were born with because of this sort of governance.”
“Every person in Indiana deserves not only access to adequate healthcare but feel empowered to exercise their right to make decisions about their health, bodies and future. By limiting access to secure administration of life-saving healthcare, we are continuing to set an example of governance that is not pro-life, but only pro-birth; Indiana deserves better.”
