FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is highlighting the department’s 2024 capital improvement projects and programs. Over 60 Park projects were completed and the City of Fort Wayne invested approximately $3 million in Parks and Recreation Department improvements in 2024.
FW Parks and Recreation released the following on Tuesday:
“I’m encouraged to see how much progress was made this year in projects that are improving our parks throughout Fort Wayne,” said Mayor Tucker. “It’s great to see individuals, families, and visitors enjoying the many recreational offerings that are available in every quadrant of the city. Providing quality of life amenities makes Fort Wayne a better place to live, work, and play. Congratulations to Parks and Recreation on a great 2024 and we know that another round of capital improvement projects will benefit our community in 2025.”
Completed 2024 Capital Improvement Projects include:
10 neighborhood park playground replacements
Botanical Conservatory North Linkway Interior & Tropical Path improvements
Franke Park Renaissance
Irish Town Plaza Construction
Johnny Appleseed Park Campground Improvements
Parks System Comprehensive Plan
Salomon Farm Restroom Building Winterization Construction
Swinney Park Tennis Courts Recoating
Various Parks 2024 Paving Projects
Various Parks Playground Border
Various Parks Safety Surfacing
Looking ahead to 2025, the following projects are planned to steward park properties and enhance use of and access to the parks for citizens and visitors.
6 neighborhood playground replacements
Community Center Shuffleboard shade system
East Swinney Park trail to Mechanic Street Bridge
Foster Park Golf Course lot and volleyball courts lot seal coat and striping
Jennings Center rear door entrance improvements
Kettler Park trail to playground repaving
Kreager Park trails and drainage
Kreager Park tennis courts renovation
Lakeside Park fountains
Ronald G. Repka Park boardwalk repairs
Wells Street Park redevelopment
“Our department is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for the citizens and visitors to Fort Wayne,” said Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel. “We can do that most effectively when we can engage with community members.” He added, “I thank Mayor Tucker, Fort Wayne City Council, donors, and the hard-working Parks and Recreation board, staff and volunteers for another successful year.”
The City will continue to invest in Parks, with $3 million slated for 2025.
