FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – If you’ve driven down Coliseum Boulevard in recent years you may have noticed that something was missing.
On December 23, 2022, the huge flag that flew above the Glenbrook Dodge dealership snapped due to extremely cold temperatures. Representatives say that it came crashing down onto the lot that Christmas Eve eve with temperatures feeling like -38 degrees.
On Tuesday, the new 50 by 80-foot flag was raised above the car dealership.

Giant American Flag to Fly again at Glenbrook Dodge Dedication Ceremony set for Tuesday July 2nd at 10 am Fort Wayne, IN June 28 th, On December 23, 2022 with low temperatures at -8 degrees and wind chills reaching -38 degrees the pole holding the giant American Flag at Glenbrook Dodge snapped into 3 separate pieces and came crashing down on the car lot below.
`The flag that had flown over 21 years was no longer flying at the local dealership. Douglas G. McKibben, owner of the Glenbrook Automotive Group vowed to replace the iconic flag with a new pole and return the Giant American Flag to its original glory. Mr. McKibben said, “After researching the concrete base with sonar technology to ensure it had not cracked, it was determined we could use the existing base and order a new pole that would withstand winds up to 130 MPH.”
He said “The new pole is 213 feet high, is now painted red and will fly the 50-foot by 80-foot American Flag again. Community support has been overwhelming and on Tuesday, July 2nd the Giant American Flag will again continue to be a patriotic landmark in Fort Wayne.”
